Description
Best of both worlds. This wonderful craft can give the freedom of being trailered to a lake or ocean. Ilur Sail and Oar designed by Francois Vivier. This is not the kit version. This Ilur was designed in full compliance with European regulations. This sailboat has enjoyable classic lines with beautiful wood grains and fit. It gives an old-world charm and feel. If you want that Viking feel. It is set up for four beautiful oars.
This wood beauty can be trailered with ease. Which opens opportunities to explore and enjoy different environments. The trailer and boat are lightweight. This has been nicely and easily trailered via a Subaru Outback to Santa Barbara, Ventura, Dana Point, Long Beach Alamitos Bay, San Pedro and Redondo Beach. I am sure any lake would be happy to have it visit there. The design category is EU C/D. Inshore 3 crew/ Sheltered waters 5 crew. Great adventures await.
Hull
The owner builder hand-picked the mahogany and spruce from the lumber yard himself for the build plans. Hull was constructed of Okoume marine plywood 3/8-inch lap strake hull with West System Epoxy. He used the same type of spruce wood used in airplanes. Each wood piece he milled, planed, and fitted. Added West systems epoxy. Laid up, glued, and topped with resin.
Interior floor deck and benches constructed in Honduras Mahogany. Laminated Oak frames secured with bronze screws. Not the aluminum rivets that are used in the kits. Rub Rail constructed of Sapele. Also secured with bronze screws.
Fittings
Mast, Boom, Yard, Bitt, and Bow Sprint constructed of Aircraft quality Sitka Spruce
Swing keel and rudder constructed of Okoume marine plywood.
Bronze bowsprit iron, fairleads, and mast traveler, bronze fittings throughout.
Halyards and mainsheet traveler hemp like polyester rope
Sails
Dabbler Oceanus Canvas main and jib. Can be sailed as a balance lug sail or lug sloop with jib.
Propulsion Options
A Honda 2hp outboard. (Honda 2hp motor needs some carburetor work.)
Or with you and the wind and sails. Or with one or two of you with the two pairs of 8’11” Spruce Shaw & Tenney oars. The oars were $500 each new.
