Description

There’s a reason why you see Catalinas in every marina you go to, everywhere in the world. They are fun to sail, come outfitted to a high standard, and are comfortable for long-distance cruising. The 380 (same hull as the 390, rearranged interior) won Midsize Cruiser of the Year. People love them because they do what a sailor wants them to do, and the non-sailors who are looking for comfort.

ELTANIN is a one-owner boat that's been well-kept her whole life. The owner was raised to know the value of regular maintenance and has records going back to day one. Not that she’s a high-maintenance boat. With zero teak on the deck and a clean design, she’s as easy to maintain.

With a walk-through transom, in-mast furling, and a roomy three-cabin layout, this Catalina 390 is a very desirable vessel.

She has an in-mast furling mainsail, good sized genoa and a cruising spinnaker for light wind days. It’s so easy to get the sails up, you’ll never want to motor. But if you must, the Yanmar 3JH3E is a great engine. It’s easy to work on, efficient, and easy to get parts for. With a fin keel and spade rudder, she can turn on a dime. Useful when short-tacking or docking.

The moorage in Nanaimo is assumable with management approval.

Layout & Description

OUTSIDE

The overall look of the Catalina 390 is that of a sleek, classy yacht ready to hit the waves. The transom is a sugar scoop, making boarding and unloading a tender very easy. The freeboard is relatively high, with a low cabin. The decks are wide with the shrouds mounted to the cabin side: this makes it very easy and safe to walk down the decks free and clear of obstacles. The foredeck is spacious, with deck access to the chain locker.

The cockpit is the perfect place for a race team to do their work, or for a crowd to do their socializing. It’s large, with bench seats long enough to lie out on. Two perch seats are built into the pushpit. The aft bench is split for access to the sugar scoop and boarding ladder. A large SS wheel is centreline, with navigation instruments on the binnacle. A gull-wing table is forward of the binnacle, affording comfortable dining for four. There’s a winch on either side of the cockpit for the jib sheets. There are grab rails on either side of the companionway on the cabin top with winches and clutches on both sides, plus line bags to keep the space neat and tidy. Overall, it’s a well-designed and highly functional space.

  • Solid, laminated fiberglass hull

  • Deck is balsa core

  • Raked bow to keep the rode from damaging the topsides

  • Generous beam

  • Roundish two-step swim platform

  • No teak on deck – easy maintenance

  • Deep fin keel for ease of maneuvering and stability

  • Semi-elliptical spade rudder

  • Deck-access chain locker

  • Two very deep lockers in the cockpit

INSIDE

The companionway stairs drop centerline between the galley to port and the head to starboard. The galley is well laid out: L-shaped with a SS double sink, 3-burner stove w oven, top-loading fridge with plates, front-loading fridge, and plenty of storage along the hull and under the sink.

Aft of the galley is a stateroom with a double bed and a hanging locker.

To starboard of the companionway is the main head. This has a vanity sink, a manual flush toilet, and a tall,  stand-alone shower stall. There is also an opening porthole for ventilation.

Aft of the head is another stateroom, also with a double bed and hanging locker.

Engine access is beneath the companionway stairs as well as both aft staterooms. Access is excellent.

Forward of the galley and head is the saloon. To starboard is a bench settee, to port is a C-shaped settee. This is wrapped around a table that folds out to accommodate guests on both sides of the saloon, it also drops down to make a double berth. There is storage under- and all-around the salon. There is lots of natural light coming in, making it a bright and welcoming space.

  • Forward of the saloon is the third stateroom. It has a V-berth, hanging locker, and its own vanity sink.

  • Floors are carpeted with underpadding for comfort over teak and holly laminate

  • Upholstery is dark blue and in excellent condition

  • Cabins are lined with teak veneer

  • Wood cabinetry w off-white galley counter surfaces

  • White moulded plastic deck head

  • Ample windows, portholes, and hatches for light, air, and escape

  • Ample storage in the galley as well as the salon

  • Hanging closet space in all 3 staterooms
