The Caliber 40 is a recreational keelboat, built of fiberglass, with teak wood trim and is a yacht created to meet the rigorous demands of the sea, and the quality-minded sailor. When rough water makes most sailors miserable, a Caliber owner can cruise in comfort and with confidence. The CALIBER 40 has retained its value as a result of superior building, a solid reputation, and a devoted owner base.
“SEA GYPSY” is rigged as a sloop, with anodized aluminum spars, bowsprit, raked stem and reverse transom for easy boarding from the dinghy, that also sports a swing-down swimming ladder and hand-held shower. It features a skeg-mounted rudder controlled by a large stainless steel destroyer type wheel and a fixed fin keel.
The popular Caliber 40 is an ideal cruising yacht with good tankage, comfortable deck layout for the short-handed sailor, and spacious accommodations. The Caliber 40 “SEA GYPSY” is an ideal cruising yacht with good tankage, comfortable deck layout for the short-handed sailor, and spacious accommodations.
Known for uncompromising craftsmanship, exceptional stowage, and seakindly characteristics, "Sea Gypsy" is one of the best values for a true "blue water cruiser" on the market. The current owner has had her for about 6 years, lived on her in St. Thomas, sailed her through the islands and up to Florida, and now "Sea Gypsy" resides in For Pierce, Florida and ready for your careful onboard inspection.
The Caliber 40’ was introduced in 1992, following in the footsteps of the famous Caliber 38’ and was an instant success. World class sailors considered her rugged construction, live-aboard interior and performance underbody, to be exactly what they were looking for in a blue water capable yacht.
Fulfilling the promise and ability of blue water cruising and these qualities incorporated in the Caliber 40’, “SEA GYPSY” has come to the brokerage market and will go the distance, in safety, comfort, speed and style of a proven offshore sailing machine….all at a remarkably affordable price.
“SEA GYPSY” meets all the expectations of swiftness, seaworthiness, durability, exceptional stability and comfort while sailing offshore or simply living aboard and cruising around between local anchorages and yacht clubs.
“SEA GYPSY” will sail as far as you wish to wander. Her skeg hung rudder, cruising proven fin keel, excellent cockpit, and safety features insure a good ocean crossing that will be fast, comfortable and give you memories of a lifetime.
If you are looking for a robust, well-designed cruising boat for blue-water sailing, come have a look at “SEA GYPSY”, she will fulfill your cruising dreams. Calibers have a well-deserved reputation for first-rate construction, featuring solid fiberglass hand laid hulls and decks, glassed in bulkheads and interior furniture, a skeg-hung rudder on a cut-away keel and just five feet, one inch of draft, which means you will be able to anchor and cruise where many blue water boats cannot. The spacious living quarters below decks feature a dedicated nav station, ensuite head in the owner's quarters which sports a separate stall shower, a 2nd head conveniently located next to the companionway, and an aft cabin capable of sleeping two.
“SEA GYPSY” is ready to take you to the Bahamas, and beyond, whether you’re planning on cruising to the Med, or heading south towards the Panama Canal. She has many special features and upgrades and is chomping at the dock lines to get sailing again. Cruise equipped, ”SEA GYPSY” is ready to “do it all over again”, and possesses all the necessary equipment to venture offshore once more.
Accommodations
- This beautiful boat sleeps up to seven people in accommodations with the MUCH SOUGHT AFTER PULLMAN BERTH, main salon with port side pull out berth and aft quarter berth. Like all Caliber Yachts the main salon settees and the quarter berth make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The interior is dry, bright, comfortable with outstanding ventilated, including 14 S.S. opening portholes, 7 overhead hatches with screens, large companionway step through hatch with large platform steps, solar ventilation fan and two deck cowls ll of which are strategically place for optional air circulation.
“SEA GYPSY”is styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations and finished in furniture quality teak.
The interior of “SEA GYPSY” is well-illuminated and starting forward, features a roomy head with its own separate shower with teak grate and seating area to port, enclosed by a Plexiglas door. The toilet is to starboard and there is a round S.S. sink with pressure hot & cold water with large storage cabinet under, a cabinet over, storage with sliding doors to port of sink, a mirror over the sink, a hatch overhead and 2 opening ports. There is also additional storage in the “V” with a locker with teak door under and additional storage over.
The sleeping quarters are true staterooms. Walking aft through the curved ships-styled door, you will find am expansive and private, true stateroom instead of a cramped V-Berth, there’s a full forward cabin with accommodations for two. There is a large offset Pullman berth to port, with multiple drawers and storage cabinet under. Outboard there are a series of book shelves and storage areas with fiddles, opening screened port with curtain and overhead lights.
To starboard is a sit-down vanity unit as well as two large hanging closets forward of the vanity. Above is an additional hanging locker storage with mirrored door. Starboard side opening port and hatch with teak trimmed screening overhead make this a comfortable stateroom in any weather conditions.
A wide teak and holly sole and numerous stowage areas throughout the boat are well known features of Caliber yachts. The teak battens on the cream colored staving overhead panels contrast nicely with the striking polished teak throughout “SEA GYPSY”
Moving aft is the warm and inviting main salon which is located amidships with large comfortable settees to starboard and the large, “L” shaped settee to port, They are both cozy sea berths, with the port settee pulling out to make a double, an exceptionally comfortable berth for crew or guests. There are overhead grab rails for safety underway, large opening overhead hatch, brass reading lights, and multiple opening & screened ports throughout.
Especially desirable is the bulkhead mounted teak table which folds up against the bulkhead when not in use, thus opening the main salon for a spacious “living room” feel. There is bottle and additional storage shelves built into the table bulkhead, adding to the spaciousness of the salon. The table folds down into the “L” of the settee and then folds open again into a very large table, allowing the starboard full-length settee to be used for dining as well. Outboard of each settee is shelf storage as well as plentiful storage below and behind the settees.
Storage is abundant everywhere on “SEA GYPSY” including large custom cabinets and book shelves over the settees, and large storage areas behind and under settees. There is a heavy teak & holly sole throughout.
Aft of the main salon and to starboard, there is a second head conveniently located near the cockpit. A round stainless steel sink with hot & cold pressure water is outboard, with storage cabinet under. With two doors in the aft head, one connecting to the aft cabin and one to the salon, it can be accessed from either area without disturbing the other’s occupants. The aft head is completely outfitted with an ensuite shower.
The same kind of comfort and convenience is provided in the aft, with its aft berth and large hanging locker. The aft cabin berth is large enough for guests or can be used as a convenient and roomy sea berth.
To port is the spacious and functional “L” shaped galley that the Caliber 40’ is so well known for. Features include: light Formica counter tops, double stainless steel sinks which are deep enough for washing pots and pans, gimballed stainless steel 2-burner propane stove and oven with safety shut-off, S.S. safety bar in front of stove and dual top opening refrigerator compartment with SeaFrost refrigeration/Freezer.
Galley storage and large flat working surfaces are abundant on the Caliber 40’, including a fold up additional work area at the end of the sinks on centerline, and it is a delight for the accomplished chef or crewmember to work in with storage for food and utensils, and more than enough counter space to prepare multi-course meals.
Next aft and outboard is a proper offshore, navigation station and chart table, with a comfortable cushioned seat and a good-sized chart table, directly next to the companionway steps and cockpit, which affords good communication ability to the helmsperson. “SEA GYPSY” boasts an exceptional navigation and communication station with plenty of room outboard for electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The nav table has storage under the desk top, the electrical panel up high and outboard of the navigator for ease of monitoring systems.
Additionally, the Pullman owners berth is equipped with lee cloths for offshore passage making and the port settee can make a third double berth. There are cabin fans throughout.
