Description
HONEY RYDER was named after the first "Bond girl" from the movie Dr. No. She was a spirited, fierce and very attractive vixen of the sea. The Union Polaris 36 cutter is a well proven design that can be cruised with confidence and comfort. Whether going out short handed or with the family, the Union Polaris 36 is a design proven dependable by over twenty years of plying the seas in all weather.
The Union 36 is based upon a 34' Bob Perry design that was drawn for Hans Christian. Hans Christian later changed the design to 36' which was continued to be built by Union Yacht Co. after Hans Christian moved to another yard. In short the Union Polaris is the overbuilt traditional double ended ocean cruiser that one would expect from a vessel with these lines. This design has a traditional spacious interior with excellent storage, comfortable accommodation; long range tanks and is nicely finished in teak. This vessel was described by Practical Sailor as a "Tank Trimmed in Teak".
Walkthrough
Anchor locker forward followed by V-berth master with cabinets on both sides followed by a single hanging locker with louvered doors & a double hanging locker with arched solid panel doors on starboard. The V-Berth is configured with a double bed size mattress. The head is to port, and has a separate shower compartment with a teak seat and shower sump. A large closet is opposite the head.
Next is the salon with a settee to starboard. Across to port is a U-shaped settee with dining table. Above the table hangs a brass trawler lamp and the table lowers to convert the settee to a double berth. There is excellent storage under the settees and additional stowage provided by cabinetry and shelving located outboard of the settees. Continuing aft are the electronics and the nav station with three drawers and cabinets followed by a second large quarter berth. The galley is located to port across from the nav station. It has a deep double stainless steel sink and a hanging cabinet situated to provide separation of the galley from the salon area.
Excellent interior light and ventilation is provided by (9) opening ports, a large hatch in the salon and an opening hatch in the head. There is 12V lighting in the salon combined with red safety lighting continuing throughout the yacht. White cabin headliner combined with the beautiful and classic teak to create an overall feeling of brightness inside.
