Description
1985 Amel Sharki 40 – “Janszoon”
Proven Bluewater Ketch | Extensive Refit | Lithium Batteries | Ready to Cruise
The Amel Sharki is one of the most respected bluewater cruising yachts ever built, and Janszoon is a standout example. Built in La Rochelle, France by the legendary Chantiers Amel, this 1985 Sharki (#127 of just 195 built) embodies Henri Amel’s philosophy of safety, comfort, and true offshore capability. Designed to be sailed short-handed or single-handed, the Sharki is a go-anywhere cruising yacht with exceptional tankage, protected cockpit, and a timeless, seaworthy hull form.
Janszoon has benefited from conscientious ownership, a solo circumnavigation, and a major refit history aimed at long-distance, self-sufficient cruising. Recent upgrades include a full lithium battery system (2025), interior refurbishment with new upholstery and headliner removal, and continuous mechanical and systems maintenance. She is now ideally positioned in Panama for immediate cruising—either throughout the Caribbean or onward through the Panama Canal to the Pacific.
This is a turn-key bluewater cruiser with proven pedigree, extensive spares, and the thoughtful upgrades experienced offshore sailors value most.
