Description
Half-tonners have marked the history of regattas and offshore racing in Europe. These sailboats have given rise to very popular series and have allowed architects to make a name for themselves. I propose to revisit 20 of these sailboats that turn out to be very good boats for racing, and even for cruising.
Everyone knows the term Half-tonner. Everyone has already encountered one of these sailboats at sea or on a dock. On the water, they always impress with their ability to sail upwind, often much better than newer units.
The great era of half-tonners allowed many shipyards and architects to launch and make a name for themselves. Their shapes could sometimes be surprising, with the "little butt" and their rounded shapes, with a very advanced beam.
But these sailboats are also the symbol of another idea of regatta and offshore racing. No compensated time, the first to arrive wins. Therefore, it is necessary to make the fastest boat, within the constraints given to us.
