Description
Lona III was designed in 1906 by J. Pain Clark, one of the leading amateur yacht designers of the early 20th century. Clark designed 15 sailing yachts and Lona III became one of his favorites.
She was built in 1907 in Burnham-on-Crouch, the heart of English sailing on the East Coast, by William King & Sons.
Lona’s hull is 10.82 m long at the deck, and 12.75 m with the bowsprit. She is 2.37 m wide and has a draft of 1.60 m. Her displacement is 6.8 tons, of which 2.8 tons is lead ballast.
The structure and the 140 bronze-riveted ribs are oak, and the skin is pitch pine below the waterline and teak above. The deck is Iroko and the new cabin and cockpit are built in afromosia. The round timbers are in Oregon pine.
We thoroughly restored Lona III over six years and relaunched her in the spring of 2016.
