Description
Welcome to the 400 Mainship Fast Trawler.
Substance, style and quality for comfortable year-round cruising describes this Mainship 400 Trawler! The Mainship is designed and fully equipped to take the cruising experience to a new level of comfort and convenience. This Mainship 400 is the culmination of all the company’s trawler-building experience. It’s a well-crafted, substantial vessel with an enduring and timeless style.
The Mainship 400 is a remarkably seaworthy vessel. It has a full keel for maximum stability under way and provides protection to the bronze five bladed prop and rudder. The hull construction provides a sailboat-like ride that takes chop with a sophisticated gentle up-and-down motion. When it’s needed the throttle is pushed forward slightly, this 400 Trawler springs to life and its semi displacement speed quickly approaches 14 knots.
Docking a single-screw boat can be a chore, but the Mainship 400 has a bow-thruster AND a stern-thruster which makes maneuvering and docking a simple breeze. This is a great addition that just about any skipper can appreciate – and will use regularly. The 400 Trawler powered with the economical Yanmar 6YLA-STP 370 hp, burns less than 2.5 gallons per hour at displacement speed of 7.5 knots. The engine room is spacious with easy all-around access to every service point. The running gear includes a ZF80 transmission, and five blade bronze cast propeller and rudder (Both Propeller & Rudder coated with Prop Speed May 2025).
There’s an impressive amount of usable space, both topside and below decks. The most striking example of this roominess is the fly-bridge. Instead of the usual ladder configuration, a fully molded fiberglass stairway leads to the upper deck. The helm is positioned on the centerline, and there are two forward-facing seats – on one each side of the captain’s chair. In addition, there’s an L-shaped bench seat along the port side and a straight bench to starboard, with ample storage under the seats, and a fold down center table in the center of this seating area. It has a full flybridge enclosure with roll up Isinglass windows. All Isinglass has been replaced on flybridge and transom enclosure between 2022 and 2024.
The aft end of the bridge-deck has a cozy round table which provides an intimate setting for watching the sunset or that morning cup of coffee. An added luxury is the built-in fiberglass summer kitchen console that holds the sink and provides a BBQ preparation area. The extended deck space on the fly-bridge provides a double benefit of covering the cockpit/transom as well as the walk-around side decks, protecting both areas from weather on rainy days (Canvas insert cover keeps the rain out of the Cockpit). There is a custom Stern-Tie Reel and SS Kayak Davit as well.
The walk-around side-decks leading to the foredeck are wide, with a high railing for security when seas are rough. The windlass is mounted under cover, for protection. The Mainship’s unique salon features double doors holding the floor-to-ceiling panels of tempered glass. Once the doors are opened the entire aft section of the salon opens up to the transom/cockpit and comes with a retractable screen door.
The salon is also open to the full galley located forward and to starboard with its cherry wood cabinets, Corian counters, an oven with a three-burner range, a microwave and a large Nova Kool refrigerator/freezer, All Halogen lighting has been replaced with LED. A deep double sink and an access lid to the garbage and recycling area completes this very functional meal preparation area.
The Mainship’s designers, made the dinette a focal point of the salon. Just one bench seat is used, and that’s along the forward side of the table. The seats on the aft side are comfortable bar stools with backs which opens up the whole area and provides an amazing feeling of spaciousness. The lighter cherry finish helps keep the space from feeling confined.
The vessel has two staterooms. The master suite is located in the bow and has a pedestal queen-size berth. There’s generous storage in the stateroom – both under the berth and in lockers to either side. An opening overhead hatch with a retractable privacy panel is screened, to let in welcome breezes. The second stateroom offers twin single berths. The head is accessible from either the master suite or the companionway. The compartment’s enclosed glass shower stall includes a tub with a molded-in seat.
To accommodate long stays on the hook, the owner installed three (3) Gioco (Italian) GSP 145-Watt flexible solar panels and a Victron Energy MPPT Charge Controller. House Batteries were replaced in 2024 so no more summer cruising angst about the refrigerator draining the house batteries while relaxing in that secluded anchorage.
This vessel includes a Sea Wise Davit to easily launch and retrieve the AB 2005 Tender powered by a 9.9 HP Yamaha.
The radar-arch folds down so that the Mainship can slip under the lowest bridges or into tight boathouses. With comfortable accommodations for a cruising couple and guests, a sea-kindly hull and efficient single-engine performance, this vessel is a very attractive choice for gunkholing explorers. A Condition & Valuation Survey (May 2025) has been completed and is on the vessel for review.
Come and view this well found 400 Mainship she will not disappoint!
