Alacrity was completely overhauled in 2006 for a global circumnavigation. The hull, from about 12” above the waterline to the keel, has a progressive 6 to 12 additional layers of fibreglass to reinforce the hull in preparation of the circumnavigation.

Alacrity has 2 separate lifting ring positions on the main cabin roof. One is over the main engine position and the other is over the generator position. No additional reinforcement is needed to lift the engine or generator other than your lifting hoists.

This is arguably the strongest built boat you will find from the main cabin roof structure to the decks to the hull, it’s overbuilt for safety.

Construction

All GRP, with non-slip finish on deck. Deck painted 2018, centre cockpit.

The hull was reinforced in 2006 with 6-12 layers of Biax fibreglass ranging up to 30cm above the waterline using West System epoxies, prior to a circumnavigation.
There is a folding Swimming/dive platform can be lowered from the stern to the waterline, for easy access from the water.

Mechanicals
Volvo Penta MD40 6 cylinder 85hp diesel engine.
Shaft drive to propeller.
Wheel steering.
Hydrovane self-steering wind vane.
Hydraulic steering - All replaced in May of 2023.

TANKAGE:
Fuel capacity of 400 litres of diesel in 3 stainless steel tanks
Water capacity of 500 litres in 6 stainless steel tanks

ELECTRICS and FREE power systems!
2 × 40a battery chargers - run from the 220 volt power provided by the Generator
8 x Trojan 6v batteries for a ‘house bank’ of 900 ah. 

Separate, start battery for the generator.

Kubota 2 cylinder diesel generator, 220v/50Hz, overhauled 2022.
5kw modified sine wave inverter for proper 110 Volt power
1000w sine wave inverter - for 220 volt power
Shore power with cable - 220 volt system
Solar panel generation system 930 watts through 3 310 solar panels - New May 2023
Solar system rewired and new charge controller installed (2025)
2 x wind generators

WATER:
Hot and cold pressurized water system
Water heated in tank with 220v immersion heater or engine heat exchanger but only during generator or engine operation.
Village Marine 12v water-maker 7 gal/h (New uninstalled membrane)
Manual fresh water foot pump in the galley
All water filters replaced with new in May of 2023

Rigging/Spars
Classic sloop rig.
Sail bag.
Roller furling genoa.
2 × spinnaker poles for downwind butterfly sailing.
Standing rigging replaced 2013, all 10mm. - Rig inspected by a professional Rigger in May of 2023

Accommodation
Sleeps 6 in 3 double cabins.

Aft Cabin sleeping surface is very large and can be fitted with any sort of mattress desired.
Twin forward cabins with upper/lower bunks each and shared heads in the forward
compartment.
Forward Head and Aft Cabin Head - toilet and sink only.
Aft cabin head toilet replaced in 2022
Main Salon with large seating area with to starboard, navigation station forward, U-shaped galley and L shaped dinette area to port.
All upholstery new as of March 2023

2 x autopilots, one with gyro-control

DOMESTIC:
New stove/oven installed January 2023

SAFETY:
New 4 man life raft mounted on starboard side aft rail, outboard without any restrictions. Proper paperwork available for the raft certification.
4 New Life Jackets, still in the packages with proper paperwork.

Recent Upgrades

• 12 v / 220 v galley refrigeration plus associated equipment - removed and replaced with a modern Isotherm 12 v fridge
• galley stove/oven replaced with a new modern unit
• propane gas lines replaced
• all fuel lines & filters replaced for both the engine and generator

• Main starter battery replaced
• solar power generation capability upgraded to 930 watts
