Gezina Gretha
The 'Gezina Gretha' was built in 1894 as a roef ship named 'Vertrouwen'. It was a small vessel of about 17 tons, and the client was S. van der Woude from Buitenpost.
It is one of the first iron skutsjes.
Drawings of the sail plan of the ship, from the period when it was converted into a pleasure craft (with a cabin, around 1951), are preserved in the archive of the Fries Scheepvaartmuseum in Sneek.
Gezina Gretha has been owned by its current owners since 2020, who would like to pass on the heritage into the next caring hands. The spacious cockpit with beautiful solid teak benches and covers offers a nice place to greet the watching public, as you can expect... you will get plenty of attention and thumbs up here. The cozy cabin, which has been beautifully re-paneled in mahogany, provides just a bit more comfort than before. A generous galley, nice seating area, and spacious toilet are also present. In the forepeak, there is space for four berths, two forward in the bow, and the other two at the height of the mast. The standing height is reasonably good, ranging from 185cm to 165cm in the cabin. In the forepeak, it is more of a bend down, measuring about 130-110cm.
(major) Maintenance history:
In 2010, the bottom was renewed at shipyard Talsma in Heeg.
In 2011, the ship was re-paneled with beautiful mahogany by Mulder in Wergea, and at that time, the teak deck (gable roof) was replaced with a new deck.
In 2013, the mainsail was renewed.
In 2022, a bow thruster was installed, and the underwater hull was treated with antifouling, and anodes were replaced.
In 2023, the mast was replaced with a steel mast at Stallinga Shipyard in Leiden.
