Description
General Description (by Listing Agent)
- PACIFIC WIND is a unique low-profile pilot house design, built to a very high standard and still in extraordinary condition.
- A classic performance cruiser design, the original Sceptre 41 started building in 1982, with 53 hulls delivered to 1993.
- The updated and transom-extended Sceptre 43 version started producing in 1995, with 12 hulls delivered, of which PACIFIC WIND is #9 of the series.
- The Sceptre 43 offered an added sugar-scoop transom for additional waterline length, more reserve buoyancy aft, swim platform and improved aesthetics – the walk-through transom facilitates dinghy boarding, swim/dive operations and man overboard rescues
- Both versions of solid FRP hull construction; deck and house cored with Baltek end-grain balsa
- Fine entry at the stem and deep hull sections (for load-carrying ability); long, bolted-on, cruising fin keel with skeg-hung rudder (3 bearings)
- Double-spreader, keel-stepped mast rig with cutter capability – chain plates are secured mechanically to 4" aluminum pipes running fore and aft on either side of the hull set in massive FRP knees
- A very capable, blue-water, fast cruiser, with a deep and accommodating cockpit, and unique low-profile pilot house design
A Brief History & Significant Updates (by Listing Agent)
Built and delivered new in 2001, PACIFIC WIND was hardly used for her first few years, and acquired by the current owners in Seattle, WA in 2004. After a year of additional outfitting and cruising the San Juans, Canadian Gulf Islands and the BC Sunshine Coast, she was cruised down to San Francisco Bay. After another year of further refits and local cruising, she continued south, joining the Baha Haha in 2007. For the next five years, PACIFIC WIND cruised the Mexico Gold Coast and the Sea of Cortez 3-6 months each winter, and homeported in Banderas Bay, Puerta Vallarta. She was then shipped on Dockwise Yacht Transport back to the Northwest from La Paz to Nanaimo, and has been homeported in Friday Harbor, WA ever since, cruising the Salish Sea to Central BC.
The owners have taken extraordinary care of PACIFIC WIND, with continual maintenance, both cosmetic and mechanical, and numerous major upgrades during their tenure as owners:
- Hull and cabin professionally repainted 2024-25: Hull topsides and Sceptre striping with Awlgrip LPU; deck, cabin, non-skid with new gelcoat
- Bottom stripped to renew the epoxy barrier coat 2024
- Keel bolts inspected and torqued 2018
- All new upholstery, cushions and canvas last two years
- Five (5) new Lewmar overhead hatches 2024
- All new companionway hatch Lexan 2024
- Espar hydronic heating system upgraded w/ new furnace & lines 2018
- Pulled mast and boom for professional inspection and refitting and all new standing rigging 2018
- Renewed/rebuilt all sheaves, blocks, halyards, spinnaker pole, hydraulic backstay adjuster, clutches, etc. 2018
- New windlass gearbox and switches 2018
- New stainless steel, un-coated lifelines and gates with pelican hooks 2018
- Owners live out of state – when away from the boat for any extended period of time, they always leave PACIFIC WIND in “storage” mode, with a local tech under contract to check systems and run the engine up to temperature on a regular basis – extraordinary care!
