Description

A timeless motorsailer, for long and challenging voyages - even oceanic - or to live aboard (House Boat) as done by the current owner. The Fisher seems to have existed forever. In fact, the story of this classic motorsailer began in 1969, when naval architects David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt decided to fill what they perceived as a gap in the market. Their goal was to design a motorsailer with performance equivalent under both sail and power. The formula was the key to the Fisher's initial success. In the 1960s, many yachts were described as motorsailers, but most had large engines and a reduced setup. They had a fairly good engine, but the sailing characteristics left much to be desired. The rest is history. Over 1,000 Fishers have been built and can be seen around the world, moored in port after a long crossing or sailing along the coast. With its traditional canoe stern inspired by Colin Archer, the angular wheelhouse in trawler style, and the high, massive bow derived from a workboat, the Fisher has a familiar, timeless, welcoming, and reassuring appearance. The first impression is one of robustness. The sides are sturdy and high, the fittings seem oversized, and the lines are muscular. It is not superficial: the layering is very heavy and becomes even more so below the waterline, culminating in almost 5 tons of cast iron ballast encapsulated in the keel. The hull, handcrafted and high-strength, is built according to Northshore's Nordseal system, which features an outer laminate rich in resin designed to prevent any risk of transpiration, the typical precursor to osmosis.

The deck is glued to the hull in accessible areas and bolted along the entire hull-deck joint. The bulkheads are laminated to the deck, creating a solid and integrated unit. Moving forward, after navigating the inevitable and uncomfortable maneuver of turning from a deep cockpit and rounding the corner of the wheelhouse, is a rewarding experience. The deck design is uncompromising, in line with modern style: sturdy teak handrails, deep sides, high bulwarks, ample non-slip Treadmaster, even on the roof of the wheelhouse, and robust deck fittings. Two midship cleats, two large mooring cleats, and a bow cleat serve the through-hull fittings on protection plates mounted on the edges of the teak wheelhouse, acting as cable pass-throughs.
