90’ Doggersbank – Major Refit (2020–2024)
Atlantic Yacht Sales is proud to present Belle Isle Sea, a 2001 90-foot Doggersbank Expedition Yacht that stands in a class of her own.
To describe her as “refitted” would be an understatement—this yacht has been comprehensively rebuilt from the keel up, with every system, component, and finish either upgraded or replaced to an exacting commercial standard.

Built to the renowned Doggersbank design by Kuipers Woudsend and designed and overseen by Vripack, Belle Isle Sea is a 90-foot expedition-style yacht that exemplifies the rugged capability of a true ocean passage maker combined with the refined finish of Dutch craftsmanship. Constructed to Lloyd’s standards at the time of her build, she reflects exceptional quality and engineering throughout. Purchased in 2020, she underwent an extensive, multi-year refit beginning that October, during which every major system—mechanical, electrical, structural, and interior—was meticulously upgraded or replaced to bring her to near-new condition.
The result is a fully modernized, turn-key yacht ready for world cruising with the reliability, comfort, and efficiency expected of a Northern European build. The following is a detailed summary of the refit work completed.
Refit Summary — 2020 to 2024 Mechanical & Systems
Complete rewiring throughout the yacht, including all junction boxes, switchboards, panels, transformers, and converters.
All hydraulic equipment replaced with new lines and control systems, including stern thruster, bow thruster, stabilizers, hydraulic generator, stern platform, deck crane hydraulics, and new control lines for the steering system.
Starboard main engine completely rebuilt.
Port main engine fuel system, crankcase, and transmission replaced.

Construction
The Hull is a transversely framed steel hull designed and built for expedition cruising. The vessel has round bilges and flare in the bow area and fitted with bilge keels and stabilizers port and starboard.
The hull is reported to be built with LR class approved Steel and has thickness of 6mm on the upper side shell to 10mm on the bottom.
During the drydock in fall 2020, extra ice strengthening was added to the bow of the vessel. The
report by the yards indicates it is a 3/8” stainless steel plate added as a doubler in the bow region.

Deck Specs
Aft Deck
The aft deck open deck is outfitted with a fixed seating area and teak table. The space has a fixed
deckhead cover and removable canvas sides. The port side of the deck is fitted with a gate leading to the swim platform and the entrance to the engine room. The starboard side of the deck is fitted with a bulwark gate, and which looks to be built for a spiral ladder leading to the upper deck – but is not fitted.
Forward the space has a stainless-steel fridge, icemaker and sink. A secondary access to the engine room is fitted to the port side.
The deck is fitted with one stainless steel bollard and hydraulic capstan each side.
Foc’sle Deck
The Foc’sle deck – forward of the wheelhouse – is a Portuguese bridge with storage lockers
accessible from the aft side. The Deck is teak covered and has access hatches to the forepeak / chain locker and an escape hatch from the forward crew accommodation.
The area is fitted with two deck lockers for storage, the windlass, capstan, four stainless steel bollards, and two cowl vents for the forward accommodations.

Superstructure
The superstructure on the vessel houses all the common areas of the vessel including the vessel’s
saloon, galley, crew mess, wheelhouse. The upper deck consists of a flybridge, and aft exterior deck
with a RIB / launching crane. The aluminum structure is coated in Matterhorn White.
Flybridge
The flybridge is covered in a canvas with stainless steel framed Bimini permanently connected to the flybridge handrails and the arch.
The flybridge is outfitted with a navigation console and three captains’ chairs. Aft of the console is a
bench seating area with a fixed teak table. A countertop with sink is fitted to the port side. A circular
skylight from the internal stair is fitted aft of the settee.
Storage is fitted throughout the seating, console and counter area.
The deck and bench seating are finished in teak.
Boat Deck
Aft of the Fly Bridge is an open exterior deck with loose seating, teak door leading to internal stair
and three large teak covered storage containers. On the aft end is the hydraulic deck crane and
Zodiac tender with cradle (covered). The Deck is teak.
Anchoring and Mooring Equipment
The vessel is fitted with a forward hydraulic windlass / Capstan for use with anchoring and docking.
The windlass is a robust built yacht style winch in visually good order. The port and starboard
anchor chain was in good condition and visible in the chain locker (from the forepeak). Spurling
pipes leading to the chain locker has recently been replaced.
The vessel is fitted with two anchors in stainless steel pockets.

Deck Crane
The deck crane is positioned in the aft end of the fly bridge. The crane was overhauled in 2017 and
again in 2021 by Pennecon Ltd. as part of the hydraulic system work. The Crane is for use with the
vessel’s tender.
Bow and Stern Thrusters
The vessel was fitted with a 13” Diameter GRP Stern thruster, installed on the transom of the vessel in 2017.
The Stern thruster is hydraulically operated with two counter-rotating 4 blade props.
The Bow thruster is a counter-rotating fixed pitch with two four blade that is hydraulically operated. The propeller blades are coated in Propspeed.
The Bow thruster, motors, and controls systems were renewed in 2021.
Stern Swim Platform
The vessel is fitted with a TNT lifts hydraulic GRP swim platform. The platform is bolded to the transom of the vessel. The swim platform extends the from the stern about 6.5’ with the deck being teak covered.
Stabilizers and Bilge Keels
The vessel is fitted with two active, zero speed stabilizers. The stabilizers were overhauled in 2017,
and the control system refurbished in 2021/22
Aft of the active stabilizers are bilge keels for passive roll stabilization.
Navigation and Wheelhouse Equipment
All wheelhouse and flybridge equipment were renewed and modernized in 2021 / 2022. All equipment are part of a Simrad integrated package with a NMEA2000 Backbone. System includes three large multifunction displays in the Wheelhouse , two multifunction displays on the fly bridge, new scanners, Flir Camera, New GPS and communication systems. Iridium sat communication system installed.

A completely new vessel control system by Maretron has been added in the vessel in 2022. The system monitors, reports and controls all systems onboard the vessel including tank sounding, engine and equipment alarms, electrical systems and bilge alarms. The system is accessed from locations throughout the vessel (new guest suites, Wheelhouse, Captain’s Cabin) and can also be accessed remotely.
Wheelhouse
The wheelhouse was completely rebuilt in 2022/23 to create a more spacious wheelhouse. This was accomplished by modernizing all electronics systems and moving the forward consoles forward closer to the windows then the original design. This work including replacing consoles, furnishings and equipment and floor covering. The forward console is laid out with three multifunction screens for navigation, radars, cameras and navigation data. A deckhead console houses the AIS and rudder angle indicator.
The wheelhouse has two captain’s chairs forward and a settee aft with dropdown chart table.
The forward windows are all fitted with wipers.
The vessel has a recently replaced Kobelt steering system with a wheel and joystick, as well as autopilot.
A toilet space is located between the galley and the mess space.
IT and Internal Communication Systems
A commercial grade IT infrastructure and data rack was installed in the vessel in 2022 with completely new equipment and wiring. The system is setup for remote access.

The Video data recorder (Hikvision) is mounted in the IT rack. All cameras (14) by Hikvision.
Lifesaving Equipment
The lifesaving equipment has been completed renewed in 2022 generally to commercial grade for up to 24 persons onboard. Most equipment is onboard and prepared to be mounted. Equipment must include all equipment required by Transport Canada,

Access in the deck provides access to the tank space below.
Owner’s Suite
The Owner’s suite is located below the Saloon and forward of the Engine Room. It is outfitted with a king size bed and with two WCs. The space has two standing lockers each side of the bed, with a dresser on the starboard side and a desk / workstation on the portside. The desk is fitted with a Simrad multifunction repeater.
There are two opening portlights each side of the space with stainless steel trim.
Both Toilet spaces were recently refurbished with the portside containing a shower, and the starboard side having a small bathtub.
The space has two separate fan coil units with one control for heating/ cooling.
The space has its own audio system with two BHD mounted Sonos one speakers.
Stairways and Passageways
The vessel has three stairways and two passageways. In general, all internal stairways are circular with wooden steps and anti-slip edges.
The passageway below leading to the Owners and Guest Suites is carpet covered.
The forward passageway is in the crew area and provides access to the cabins as well as a hatch to the lower storage compartment.
Saloon
The Saloon has undergone a refurbishment in 2021/22 with the redevelopment of woodworking
trim, lockers and ceiling. The space is fitted with a dining area forward for six, and a lounge area
aft with L- shaped sectional sofa.
The starboard side of the space is fitted with a cabinet at countertop level that is used for storage, which houses a two-drawer stainless steel refrigerator on the forward end. The aft end – adjacent to the sofa – the cabinet is used for the television and television lift system.
The space is fitted with independent heating /cooling controls as well as a Sonos sound system
including Sonos in ceilings speakers, and Sonos sub-woofer and Sonos Beam TV mounted soundbar.
The space has larger windows on three of the four bulkheads with blinds.
On the forward starboard side are full height cabinets that house the vessels IT, Internet and sound
systems.

Air Conditioning and Ventilation

A completely new HVAC system was installed in 2022 (heating, ventilation and AC). The new system
focuses on efficiency and recovery of heat from engines, generators, and exhaust air to minimize the heat required for water and space heating.
The A/C is from four integrated chiller units located in the engine room (S). Each space has one or two fan coil units that are controlled independently or from a centralized screen in the IT rack.
The vessel has two fresh air units that operate independent of the chiller unit to provide fresh air
changes to all spaces. Recovery air units are used for exhaust from toilets and spaced and recover
heat to be reused in the system.
Freshwater Systems
The systems were overhauled as part of the rebuild in 2021/22 including complete new systems and piping in the forward area of the vessel.

Engine Room
The engine room is in the aft end of the vessel with the main access through the lazarette.
It also has access by an inclined ladder from the aft deck, and an emergency escape that leads through the Owner’s Suite Locker.
The engine room in general was seen as clean, painted throughout including bilges.
The ER is layed out with two main engines forward, two generators running transversely aft, HVAC chillers on the port side, and hydraulic systems and generator on the Port.
Switchboard(s) and water makers are mounted on the aft bulkhead.
The vessel is fitted with a seawater cooling system located at the forward end of the engine room.
The system is connected to port and starboard sea chests with external grids.
Each sea chest has a vertical standpipe with an air bleed valve on top and a butterfly isolating valve.
The Standpipe is flanged below the waterline but is fitted with a butterfly valve between it and the overboard suction.

Propellers and Shafts
The vessel is twin screw with two 4 blade 42” diameter NiBral fixed pitch props. The props are keyed and fitted with bronze double nuts with cotter pins. Spurs line cutters are fitted to each prop. The tail shafts are approximately 80mm in diameter and run in full propeller shaft skegs. The tail shafts, propeller nuts and shaft seals were replaced in 2023.
Hydraulic Systems
The centralized hydraulic system has been completely overhauled on the vessel including new piping, controls, valves, and tank along with a new hydraulically driven electric generator. The centralized hydraulic systems has a pump with clutch installed on the forward end of each engine and powers the crane, stabilizers, bow thruster, stern thruster, windlass, capstans and hydraulic generator.

Both diesel generators were removed from the vessel and completely overhauled in 2021. Both
generators are fitted with a sound reduction casing.
A new hydraulic generator was added to the vessel in 2022. The generator has a main engine driven
pumps and a hydraulic motor driving an electric alternator. The hydraulic generator was installed to

Electrical Systems
All electrical systems were completely renewed in 2022 including all new wiring, electrical panels,
switchboard, transformer and converters.
In general, the electrical systems are 120VAC and critical components such as distribution panels
were built to Transport Canada commercial standards.
A new converter with shore power connection has been installed enabling the vessel to take
power from different power sources and voltages.

Battery – Quiet Mode Systems
A new battery power system has been installed in 2022 to allow the vessel to anchor in Quiet Mode, while maintaining power of essential services onboard without any generators running.
The system includes new charges and new battery storage segregated from the emergency and starting battery systems.
Lighting Systems
All exterior, ceiling, accent, bunk and desk Lighting throughout the vessel has been replaced complete, including new cabling. The lighting is generally LED, and interior lights are centrally controlled though a Wi-Fi based control system (Lutron).
