Jutson 43

1994 Jutson 43 for sale exclusively with DBY Boat Sales.

A Jutson 43, launched in Adelaide in 1994. She was designed specifically for the Hobart (has done the race around 10 times) - and won in PHS in 2006, some other results were good as well. (there's plenty of press on her from those years). So, a well-known and proven offshore racing boat - whenever you're in Sydney Harbour people who remember her from back then are forever coming up asking about her.

For a brief period she was used as a sail training yacht up at Airlie Beach, so the boat was in survey for that - and that's why she has a few more comforts than a typical race boat (kitchen, 9 bunks, has some unused kit that can be used for a hot shower, TV etc). Certainly set up well enough for cruising as well as racing.

Design and rig

To look at she resembles a Farr 40 mixed with a Sydney 38. Farr 40 sails do fit her rig - but she was designed to go offshore, so all the deck gear and winches are much bigger and heavier duty than a typical Farr 40 (2x Harken 53.3's, 2x 42's and 6x 48's). She's made of Kevlar, so very strong hull. The rig is also designed to be strong - set up is all rod rigging and running rig is all Dyneema sk75 or 78 (have gradually been upgrading).

To sail

The boat comes with sailing instructions - key points are that she's hyper-responsive, powers up instantly, needs a reef a lot earlier than most boats. You can cruise Another Fiasco easily and enjoy yourself, but to race her properly you get the best out of her with a good crew. She'll still beat almost anything other than the most specialised modern racers. The guys at Airlie used to say she's like an old Ferrari - not as fast as the fastest today, but still damn fast.
