Jeanneau has tapped all of its savoir-faire in ergonomic design to give the Leader 7.5 CC Series 3 surprising versatility and spaciousness. The Leader 7.5 CC Series 3 can accommodate up to eight people for outings, where all the on water activities are wide-open: fishing, water skiing, day trips, sunbathing, diving, swimming… While cruising, passengers can sit on the bench seating, forward of the helm station and facing the water, or choose the U-shaped cockpit for a cosier ride. To be the flagship of the walk around series, the Sun Odyssey 490 had to set the bar for innovation, performance, and comfort. Phillippe Briand and Jean-Marc Piaton took on the challenge and designed a boat that not only sets the standard for the Sun Odyssey range, but redefines what is capable in the 50 foot cruising market. In this design, Lombard added even more hull volume to the Sun Odyssey lines, delivering greater sailing performance, more interior space for guests comfort, and more lounge areas on topside. The coastal pilot features a semi displacement hull designed for modest top speeds in the 18-20 knot range and an efficient and sea kindly ride at lower cruising speeds. The design features a “CE - Category A” unlimited offshore rating, insuring this vessel has the sea keeping and strength capabilities to take on the most serious coastal cruises of up to a thousand miles. For example, a perfect vessel for North American cruising - from Alaska to Maine.  Main deck accommodations provide for a large galley, dinette, and lounging with a lower helm station with double helm seat. This arrangement is very appealing for a coastal cruising couple as it eliminates the isolation and separation of a raised wheelhouse. When extended, overnight watches are not as often needed as is the case during coastal passages, this arrangement has particular appeal. During typical daytime cruising, without a rotating crew, the entire area is used and the person on watch can participate in food preparation, entertainment and conversation within this large and luxurious living area. This arrangement allows for quick, easy, side door deck access from the helm station, for short-handed mooring and offers all-round visibility rivaling most pilothouse configurations.

Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) has expanded the Nordhavn line with the addition of the Nordhavn 96. This new design looks to serve as a stepping stone between the large cruiser and megayacht categories. For the enthusiast who is seeking megayacht-like style and features in a boat that is still able to be managed with no – or minimal – crew, the Nordhavn 96 is the ideal solution. She is based on the hull of the very successful Nordhavn 86, and incorporates a 10-foot cockpit extension that allows for space bumps in several areas of the boat including below decks in the crew area and lazarette; at main deck level in the cockpit and saloon; on the pilothouse deck with a larger sky lounge or upper master stateroom (depending on layout); and an even more capacious fly bridge. Fuel capacity remains the same, although slight gains in fuel burn are likely due to the N96’s longer water line. Displacement also stays virtually the same. “It is a fairly easy procedure to extend the molds,” says Jeff Leishman, PAE’s Chief of Design. And it is an efficient way to give a customer the additional space they are seeking without the drastic cost of building an entirely new hull. Nordhavn has employed this method of thinking with several of its other models including the N52 (based on the N47 hull), the N60 and 63 (based on the N55 hull), the N68 (based on the N64 hull) and the N76 (based on the N72 hull), and the approach has been a hugely successful one. The stretched out models proved themselves to be so advantageous that, as a result, they have become more popular than their predecessors. And contrary to published reports, there is zero downside to adding hull extensions. Says Leishman: “These types of modifications have actually demonstrated to enhance performance.”
