  5. Simonis 60

    Gold Coast, Queensland
    2012
    $1,450,000

5th Child is a Simonis 60 foot performance cruising catamaran that with her Carbon and Kevlar construction has been specifically designed for safe and fast passage making in mind. This high quality build was completed by Glyn Buckle in South Africa and has resulted in her 15,000 tonnes lightship displacement. This impressive catamaran delivers an exceptionally comfortable ride with her 1.8m bridge deck clearance keeping you and your family well above the water and avoiding noisy slamming in big seas. 5th Child has proven her exceptional seaworthiness with extended ocean crossings including the east coast of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope, and both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Her current owners have unfortunately had to cut short their world cruising plans due to health issues. Her dual helm stations with all navigation aids allow for the helmsmen to remain dry in all conditions. Keeping with the owners brief for the safest design possible, redundancy is throughout with two independent autopilots, three navigation stations, three sets of engine controllers and two sets of thruster controls. Her electric winches also provide for exceptionally easy two-handed sailing. The latest C Zone electronics ensure ease of monitoring and control of all of the boats functions. These can be utilised from the navigation station or even by using an iPad while outside of the yacht. Stepping inside, you will be impressed by her 7’6” headroom throughout allowing for exceptional ease of movement around the vessel. 5th Child features four king size staterooms each with ensuite bathrooms ensuring your family as well as your guests are comfortable while onboard. For ease of maintenance and to provide a light and airy atmosphere no wood was used in the design, creating a modern feel. Overall this yacht is an exceptional example of the highest quality and latest technological advances in both design and comfort. 5th Child is the ideal fast world cruiser, a must to inspect. Having moved over 15 different makes and models of catamarans over the last 2 years, both coastal and blue water, we thought this was going to be a similar run albeit a slightly bigger boat overall. What we didn’t account for was the not forecast weather. Early on we encountered the forecast 20+ knot winds. It was then that we started to appreciate the true sailing potential of this cat. With 1st reef and the genoa only in these winds we were easily reaching 15 – 18 knots of boat speed with a wind angle of 80 degrees. We maintained this for a few hours until the wind started to increase beyond forecasts. For the next 24+ hrs we experienced 30-35+ knots of wind on the beam. By this time we were down to 3rd reef and the storm jib. The boat maintained 12-14 knots boat speed and dealt with the typical short sharp seas of Bass Strait in her stride. She was extremely comfortable. Halfway between Cape Otway and Wilson Promontory the forecast was ungraded to a Gale Warning. We didn’t need to be told this as seas were breaking over the boat, yet she continued smoothly and comfortably. But the best was yet to come! We continued to the north as was planned.  It wasn’t until we passed Jervis Bay in NSW that we found ourselves about 8nm offshore. The forecast Westerly 20-25 knots suddenly became a consistent 45-50knots with gusts of 55+ knots. To avoid this we started motors and motor/sailed under storm jib in towards shore for the next couple of hours to seek some protection. In these extremely challenging conditions we pushed against the westerly and got into the protection of shore cover in short order. The Nanni 60hp motors and storm jib were a perfect combination to get us out of this weather. Rarely do we get to deliver a yacht such as this. I can see why she is described as a ‘fast world cruiser’. I would have every confidence taking this boat to sea. 5th Child is one of the good ones!’   Tim Armstrong Commercial Diver – ADAS Part 2 Master<24m Unrestricted Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Underwater Vessel Maintenance Small Underwater Construction Projects Vessel Movements Yacht Delivery
