Steam launch Hope is a 28' wood fired fiberglass hull steam launch that was restored by me over a couple year period. The hull is fiberglass and has been fitted out with a mahogany interior. All of the varnish is meticulously maintained to a high standard. The boat is easily pulled with a half ton 4 x4 pickup truck. Hope burns wood for fuel and can accommodate up to ten or twelve people, eight is comfortable. Two steering stations make it possible to single hand the boat, though someone always wants to steer. Speed is about 6 or 7 knots, but she'll do 9 knots wide open, provided you are a good fireman and the wood is dry.
The boiler is a 65 sq ft non code stamped steel water tube boiler built to good standards. It holds about fifteen gallons of water and has a fifteen gallon makup tank in the bow. The plant is condensing via a keel condenser. A jabsco vane type pump returns condensate to the hotwell. Fired with wood, steam up takes about a half hour, and another twenty minutes to warm the engine. Wood is stored on board in canvass bags and under the seats. There is four ways to get water in the boiler 1. Belt driven reciprocating pump, 2. 3/8" penberthy injector, 3. A robust hand pump, and 4. A 1890 reciprocating Blake steam pump.
The engine is a true antique made in about 1905 by Davis & Son of Kingston, Ontario. It is a piston valve compound with a Bremme type radial valve gear. Mahogany lagged with spun brass cylinder covers. Recent restoration and paint in 2017.
My recent restoration of the launched aimed at "marinizing" her, bringing everything up to marine standards for use in salt water. The deck hardware is solid bronze and brass, polished after every use. Too much to list here, I stripped the hull bare and reinstalled the machinery. Every system was gone through. She is in top notch working order and pure joy to operate.
Serious inqueries will be provided with a detailed description of the restoration including photos and videos. Always trailered by me and always stored inside. The pictures are up to date (late 2017).
Reasonable offers encouraged. I would like to find my boat a good home, she belongs on a beautiful freshwater lake.
