The Fountain 42’ Lightning is well-known to people who know performance boats and boat racing. In fact, the 42 Fountain held the V-bottom speed record at 140mph for awhile. This boat is equipped with the durable 550 hp Mercury Racing HP 575 SCI engines that will push her hard enough to rock your world.

Reggie Fountain’s racing experience is evident everywhere in the design of this boat. With an 8’6” beam, staggered engines bring the props closer together and keep the engine weight, and therefore the center of gravity, down along the keel, which helps the boats stability and handling. With a dry weight of 9400 pounds, this boat is built for speed.

Her stepped hull provides just the right amount of lift without losing its grip while making tight turns. When she takes some air, she stays level while providing a nice cushioned landing. This 42’ Lightning’s handling is not only rock solid, but incredibly responsive. The steering system is most impressive. Even in tight turns at 60mph, the boat tracks extremely well. There is no sliding or jumping in high-speed turns.

Even though the builders focus was on performance, this boat certainly will not disappoint you in the comfort and features department. Her cockpit is very attractive, with high-quality leather and custom embroidery, and is also very functional. The bolster seats have electrically activated drop out seat bottoms, making it easy to switch when an adjustment is needed from sitting to standing. Grab rails are in all of the right places for maximum safety.

The helm features a left-hand throttle controls that make it possible for performance enthusiasts to have a throttlemen. The throttles also incorporate trim controls so that you do not have to reach for another switch when an adjustment is needed. The gauges are easy to read and well placed Her glare reducing white aluminum dash really sets off the blue helm well.

The cabin is roomy and well-appointed, and gives the overall impression of quality throughout. With a leather wraparound sofa and a separate V-berth forward, there is plenty of room for overnighters’. A fully equipped galley to port, and an enclosed head to starboard, round out the requirements for successful cruising. The cabin also features both direct and indirect lightning and an AM/FM CD stereo system.

With the drives down and the tabs level, she comes up on plane quite flat, allowing for excellent visibility down and over the long bow.

Fountains race proven construction process includes bi, tri, and quad-directional fiberglass, vinyl ester resins and high-density foam core. Fountain uses foam core in high-stress areas because it is lightweight, doesn’t absorb water, and is exceptionally strong for its weight. Fountain bonds the boat’s deck and hull together to create a unitized construction that provides more strength and durability, making it less likely to flex and break.

The owner of this vessel has taken better than great care of her. He may consider a partial trade –in of a hot rod. This is a very rare Fountain that has been pampered and never abused. Don’t let he get away. Call me and make me an offer. With her you can make some memories!
